Shelby Washburn (she/her) completed her Masters of Science in Art Therapy. Shelby believes that the people she works with deserve a life where they can reach their fullest potential. She aims to work together with her clients to create the healthy changes they want to see. Shelby values collaboration in her therapeutic work, and strives to have a balance of providing guidance while also giving her clients space to explore what feels most meaningful and relevant in their therapeutic work. Her philosophy is that therapy works best when it fits the person and their needs. She utilizes an integrative approach to therapy which includes evidence-based practices, like cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy (CBT and DBT), as well as a person-centered, strengths-based approach. Shelby is trained in art therapy, which offers an alternative to traditional talk therapy. Art therapy allows for creative expression, and the artwork created is part of the therapeutic and healing process. Shelby has worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient. She has experience facilitating group therapy, working with families, and working with individuals. Shelby takes a collaborative treatment team approach in supporting her clients dealing with eating disorders order to best address psychiatric, medical, and nutritional needs.
